Check Out the First Set Pics from ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Spinoff, ‘The Originals’

The Originals are coming!

Filming for the potential Vampire Diaries spinoff began on Tuesday, March 5, with stars Phoebe Tonkin, Daniel Gillies, and Joseph Morgan all in attendance. Technically, the gang is actually filming Episode 420 of TVD, which will serve as a backdoor pilot for the spinoff series that will likely find a home on The CW’s Fall 2013 schedule.

Director Chris Grismer posted a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram from today’s shoot, writing, “The beautiful cast of #theoriginals wait for the next shot.”

Grismer also posted a photo of Daniel Gillies looking oh-so-dapper as Elijah. SWOON.

The Originals centers the Original family of vampires as Klaus reunites with his conniving former protégé Marcel in present day New Orleans. Vampire Diaries co-creator and executive producer Julie Plec wrote the pilot for the series, which will air April 25 as an episode of TVD.

In addition to Morgan, Tonkin, and Gillies, fellow Original Claire Holt has joined the cast, along with The Game star Charles Michael Davis, who will play the pivotal role of Marcel. Danielle Pineda and Danielle Campbell have also been cast as witches Sophie and Davina, respectively.
